Each year Preservation Pittsburgh holds their Annual Meeting and Holiday Gathering at a different location to highlight a neighborhood and featured building. The 1907 (with additions) 'Consolidated Ice Company Factory No. 2' was entered in the the National Register of Historic Places in 2000 for its architectural design as an industrial facility and for the role it played in the evolution of the ice industry in Pittsburgh. The complex was adapted into the Ice House Artist Studios at that time, and recognized with a Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Award from Preservation Pennsylvania and the PHMC in 2002.
Please join us on Wednesday, December 11th from 6:00-8:30pm at the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and the Irving and Aaronel deRoy Gruber Foundation, both located within the Ice House Studios building.
6:00 - 6:30 `~ Welcome (at AAP): Meet and mingle over refreshments with our Board of Directors, members, and architecture-design-art history lovers.
6:30 - 7:30 ~ Preservation Pittsburgh Presentation (at AAP): Enjoy an introduction to our organization and an overview of our past year of achievements, challenges and committee work. Followed by a Q&A.
7:30 - 8:00 ~ About the Ice House (at AAP): Learn about the background of the building, its historic significance, place in the community and latest improvements - with Preservation Pittsburgh and the Lawrenceville Corporation.
8:00 - 8:30 ~ Art & Cheers! (at the deRoy Gruber Foundation): Explore further on a walkthrough of the new gallery-studio of the Irving and Aaronel deRoy Gruber Foundation, who renovated their Ice House Studios unit into a showcase of Aaronel's artwork and their efforts to support the visual arts in Pittsburgh. Toast to a year of preservation ahead!
